In a previous article on caffeine and coffee consumption, Caffeine: To Drink or Not to Drink?, we learned that there are health benefits and detriments to caffeine consumption. We know that the effects of caffeine can lead to negative cardiovascular side-effects; but there are also some positive effects, such as links to the prevention of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, prostate cancer and even type II diabetes. And that caffeine consumption, up to a maximum of 4 cups daily (although I prefer to stick to 1-2 cups daily), isn’t associated with any direct negative health impacts. So the question is, do these benefits come from coffee or caffeine? And would decaffeinated coffee offer the same health benefits?
